Finding a photo
On the tablet, the archive brings photos to her. She does not go looking for them.
The photo in front of her
The main screen shows one photo at a time, as large as the screen allows, with Back and Next either side.
- Next passes on this one. Passing is not recorded as a decision and does not count against the photo — it will come round again.
- Back returns to the one before. Next greys out at the end rather than vanishing.
- Photos she has not talked about come first. A photo with a story already on it is not pushed at her again.
Photos you've talked about
The button at the top of the main screen opens everything with a story on it, six at a time, most recent first, with the same two arrows and a line saying 1 to 6 of 25. Tap one to hear it again or add another story.
This is the way back to something. It is also the pleasant bit: most people use it to listen rather than to look for anything.
Why there is no search box on the tablet
A search box is a keyboard, a spelling, and the possibility of a screen saying no results. All three are worse than turning a page, for the person this tablet is for.
It is also nearly always unnecessary: the archive is one family's photos, not ten thousand strangers', and the "Photos you've talked about" pages are short enough to flick through.
Finding something as a family member
Whoever looks after the archive can search across everything from the admin console, including typed notes on the backs of prints. If you are trying to track down a particular photo, ask them — that is the intended route, and it keeps a search box off her screen.

That has its own screen — see deleting a story. It only appears when there is something in it.
