Ways to watch what your family has recorded. You almost certainly do not need to install anything.
A story sent to you opens in whatever browser you already have, on any phone, tablet or computer. It plays the photo, the voice, the drawings and the back of the print. The downloads further down this page are conveniences, not requirements — and most of them are not built yet.
The web player
Available now
When someone shares a story with you, you get a link. Open it. That is the entire process — no account, no app, no sign-in.
- Works on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux.
- Plays the photo, the voice, the face, and the marks she drew as she drew them.
- Turn it over shows the back of the print.
- You can save a copy of the story as a video file, or the photo on its own, from the buttons under the player.
Family members with an archive of their own sign in at their family's own address, which whoever set it up will have given you.
Story files somebody has emailed you

Sometimes a story arrives as a file rather than a link — a .sty attached to an email or a message. That is the whole story in one file: the photo, the voice, the video, the marks and the back of the print.
- Open it at Open a story file. Nothing is uploaded — it is read inside your own browser.
- Or keep it. It is a plain ZIP: rename it to .zip and the photo and the voice come straight out, in software that has nothing to do with us.
- Files sent before September 2026 end in .fstory and open exactly the same way.
The Android app
Available now
The app is what the tablet in the house runs. It records stories and plays them back. If you want it on your own Android tablet, it is the same download.
Not built yet
These are on the list and none of them exists today. They are listed here because people ask, and because a page that quietly omitted them would be answering the question badly.

A button that leads to a file that does not exist is worse than no button, and a date we have not committed to is worse than saying "not built". When one of these is real it will appear on this page with a checksum beside it, the same as the Android app.
Keeping a story for good
Any story can be saved as a plain video file that will play in fifteen years on something nobody has invented yet. Use Save a copy under the player. That file has the photo, the voice, the drawings and the cards at each end baked into it, and needs none of our software to open.
